Why do Women Pay Less for Auto Insurance?
National statistics show that women, on average, pay less for car insurance quotes than men. Next to the sexist remarks a lot of men could come up with, there are a handful of good and well grounded reasons for this price gap, and I will try to point out a few of them.
Your privacy is important to us.
1) It’s a numbers’ game. It’s not like the auto insurance industry is picking on either gender, but women are less prone to being involved in car crashes. They drive more carefully and won’t go “pedal to the metal” as often as men. The difference is even more obvious for young drivers – men under 25 are much riskier than women of the same age.
2) Statistics lead to stereotypes. Insurance companies are more likely to sign off cheap auto insurance policies to women because they are willing to undertake the risks.
3) Women drive less than men. Fewer miles driven leads to a lower exposure to scenarios that may lead to accidents and this situation is to be reflected in the price tag.
4) Women are less skilled but more prudent. Insurance companies aren’t very keen on the Michael Schumacher kind of drivers and they tend to reward those who are less experienced but less likely to cause trouble.
Be reminded that these reasons are based on statistics and averages and don’t reflect each and every individual’s abilities. Insurance companies tend to base their pricing models on these concepts and numbers but also apply an individual approach. They do check your driving record so, just because you’re a man, it doesn’t mean you should pay more than a woman if you are a perfect driver.
There a re number of states that prohibit insurance companies from using gender as part of their quotation systems. This has been done following various equal rights groups demanding change. In any case, there are more ways to save on auto insurance. This starts by first using common sense when purchasing a car within your budget, then driving sensibly and avoid accidents. Both men and women can save money on their insurance if we cause less accident that warrants big insurance payouts.
